El hijo del sol is a combination of photography and illustration. My son is like an explorer in a foreign land since we moved to Spokane, WA from San Antonio, TX. He is proud of his heritage, he's bilingual, and culturally aware of his surroundings. Hardly anyone of his friends can properly pronounce his name, but instead of being offended or becoming upset, he teaches them. I photographed him near the Spokane River, and Told him the story of the Spokane tribe are the children of the sun. He warmed to this story. When we visited the Spokane River he said, "Aquí viene el hijo del sol." or "Here comes the son of the son." No matter where he goes, he proudly takes his culture with him.
